Plan to electrify Calgary's bus fleet gets $325M boost from feds yyc yyccc cdnpoli
Ottawa’s grant is about $100 million more in government funding than the city was expecting when it was approved for the loan earlier this year. The city initially anticipated $223 million in grant cash from other levels of government on top of the loan, which would have left the city to chip in $100 million of its own.
Gondek says the lifetime cost of the new buses will be cheaper to run and help toward the city’s net-zero goals by hastening the retirement of its diesel buses. “In making the switch from diesel to electric, the savings and operations will actually cover the cost of the loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank. Zero-emission buses will far be less costly to maintain and operate with lower fuel costs when compared to conventional diesel buses,” said Gondek.Article content
