Heard on the Street: The company that runs KFC and Pizza Hut in China posted expectation-beating results, justifying its rejection of a takeover bid last summer.
Investors don’t usually like it when a company turns down an appetizing bid at a 42% premium. But Yum China, the operator of KFC and Pizza Hut in the world’s most populous country, has shown it can deliver a satisfying meal on its own.
The New York-listed company, which was spun off from Yum Brands in 2016, reported better-than-expected results after the bell Monday. Adjusted for one-offs and currency moves, revenue grew 10% in the first quarter compared with the same period last year, while operating profit rose 9%.

Domino's Pizza testing GPS driver tracking in PhoenixDomino's Pizza Inc. is testing the use of GPS technology with drivers at 27 company-owned stores in Phoenix. Customers ordering from these locations will be able to track their pizzas on the Domino's website or app and can opt into SMS messages that will alert them that the driver is two minutes away. Drivers can also use an optional navigation function and call customers if necessary. The pilot will extend to franchise markets in Roanoke, Va., the suburban Seattle-Tacoma, Wash. area and Lansing, Mich. in the spring. Domino's stock has gained 10.3% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index is up 17.3% for the period.
