Dale Shippam, Dr. Heather Ross, and a small team recently completed a three-week trip to New Zealand, raising $600,000 and bringing the total donations since the launch of TYL to nearly $5-million
Dale Shippam had been in great shape when doctors told him in 1998 that he had cardiomyopathy, a disease that affects how the heart pumps blood.
He was told by Dr. Heather Ross, head of cardiology at Toronto’s University Health Network, that he needed a transplant. “From then it was just a matter of waiting and hoping. And fortunately, unfortunately for the person but fortunately for me, I received that heart and with it continued my life,” he added.
Dr. Ross, Mr. Shippam and a small team recently completed a three-week trip to New Zealand which featured mountain climbing, river rafting and cycling across some of the country’s most rugged terrain. They raised $600,000, bringing the total donations since the launch of TYL to nearly $5-million.
