The $12 million gift will go toward elevating the college’s new energy engineering degree program.

“I am honored to give back to the institution that has played such a pivotal role in advancing my educational and professional journeys,”. “Texas faces a critical need for highly skilled graduates who can manage energy resources, and this innovative REE program will help meet that demand.”

Warren’s name will be associated with three endowed faculty positions, laboratory space, a career experience center and scholarships and fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students, the university said. Money also will go toward undergraduate research., scheduled to launch this fall, as the first of its kind in the U.S. It aims to prepare students to apply engineering principles to energy generation, storage, conversion and distribution systems.

The donation “will accelerate our ability to produce a pipeline of talented engineers who are ready to make an immediate impact in the dynamic energy sector,” said UTA engineering dean Peter Crouch in a statement. Warren had previously donated $4 million to UTA in 10 gifts over 25 years. That included establishing a graduate student fellowship to honor his former professor and mentor,In 1996, Warren cofounded Energy Transfer, which now operates over 120,000 miles of pipeline moving about 30% of America’s oil and natural gas. It’s the fourth-largest public company headquartered in Dallas-Fort Worth, with revenue of nearly $90 billion last year.
