The discovery of a second drug\u002Ddelivering pigeon at a B.C. prison in three months is prompting theories from avian experts as to how the drop\u002Doff was pulled off.
David Kaplan of Langley’s North Road Racing Pigeon Society said the birds could have been reared to identify the Abbotsford prisons as home.
“A genuine homing pigeon requires constant feeding and care — if trained inside of the prison for months since it was young before it imprinted what was its home loft, there’s no way the prison guards wouldn’t know.” John Randle, the president of the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers’ Pacific region, says it’s possible the pigeon got inside the facility through an open window or one of its yards, where inmates spend time outside.
“The inmates, they will throw bread or whatever it is to feed the birds, which could have probably led to all of this happening.”
