Pickleball players in North Saanich, BC, are fighting the closure of popular courts at Wain Park after the council voted to shut them down due to noise complaints. A hearing is set for February 10th in B.C. Supreme Court.
Pickleball players in North Saanich , British Columbia, are taking legal action against the closure of popular pickleball courts at Wain Park. A hearing is scheduled for February 10th in B.C. Supreme Court. The players filed a petition for judicial review after the North Saanich council voted to close the courts in May due to noise complaints . The council considered moving the courts or requiring players to use soft balls, which players deemed impractical.
The group challenging the closure argues that the council failed to follow its own bylaws and that the decision was not properly on the agenda. The district counters that the petitioners lack standing to bring the legal action and that the council's process was fair. Frank Gee, one of the petitioners, maintains his connection to the situation as a resident and pickleball player. Brian Harrigan, another member of the group, says negotiations for a compromise failed before resorting to a court challenge
