Officials in Pickering say there are much better ways to tackle kitchen fires than using a fire blanket.
“There is specialized training that is required on the use of it – how to deploy it, how to place it over top of something,” said Fire Chief Steve Boyd in an interview with Durham Radio News. “Then there’s always the possibility that when someone’s putting a blanket over it, that they could be injured. They could maybe not put it over the right area of the fire.”Boyd noted that there are easier measures to take.
You can then take the pot off the burner if it is safe to do so. You could also make sure the pot’s handle is toward the back of the stove, to avoid any accidental flipping.
