Star Trek: Voyager star Garrett Wang reveals Harry Kim's cut Star Trek: Picard cameo was planned to be better than previously known.
Star Trek: Voyager star Garrett Wang revealed that Harry Kim's planned appearance in Star Trek: Picard season 3 was bigger than previously thought. Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas previously said that he wanted Wang to reprise his role as Harry Him in Picard's season 3 finale, but his cameo was cut due to budgetary concerns. However, it seems Harry Kim may have played an even greater role in Star Trek: Picard season 3.
As reported by TrekCore.com, Garrett Wang appeared at Philadelphia's Galactic Diversity & Inclusion Convention over the weekend. At a Star Trek: Voyager panel where he was joined by Robert Picardo and Tim Russ, Wang said that Harry Kim was "supposed to have a 3 episode" arc in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Further, Garrett Wang reportedly said Harry Kim's character "belongs" to Star Trek: Prodigy, which he said is the reason his Picard season 3 role was cut.

Star Trek: Picard's Cut Voyager Cameos Explained Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas said in a roundtable interview which included Screen Rant that Harry Kim and Admiral Kathryn Janeway were on his wish list for cameos in Star Trek: Picard season 3's finale. Wang was, in fact, going to appear as Captain Harry Kim, a long overdue promotion for the USS Voyager's eternal Ensign.
However, Star Trek: Picard season 3 did include Tim Russ reprising Captain Tuvok for two episodes. Russ played a Changeling posing as Tuvok before the real Vulcan arrived to promote Seven of Nine to Captain in Picard's finale. Meanwhile, Garrett Wang's comment that Harry Kim "belongs" to Star Trek: Prodigy hints that he could appear, possibly as a Captain or at least in a higher rank than Ensign, in Prodigy season 2.
