Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has issued an apology for an advertisement that superimposed a plane on the French flag and tilted it toward the Eiffel Tower, sparking criticism for its resemblance to the 9/11 attacks. The ad, posted on X to celebrate the resumption of flights to the European Union after a four-year ban, was widely condemned, prompting an inquiry from Pakistan's Prime Minister. PIA maintains the ad was intended to celebrate the return to Europe and had no malicious intent.

The illustration, not in video format, shows a plane superimposed over the French flag and tilted toward the Paris landmark, with the words “Paris, we’re coming today.” PIA spokesman Abdullah Hafeez said Thursday that the ad, which hasn’t been deleted and has more than 21.2 million views, was only ever meant to celebrate that the airline was resuming flights to Europe, and never intended to harm 9/11 survivors or victims' families.
