A Celtic Cross ceremony was held Monday afternoon in Ottawa to mark the 190th anniversary of the Rideau Canal and its 15th anniversary as a UNESCO world heritage site. The event also honoured the workers and their families who lost their lives between 1826 and 1832 while building the canal. A Celtic Cross ceremony was held Monday afternoon in Ottawa to mark the 190th anniversary of the Rideau Canal and its 15th anniversary as a UNESCO world heritage site. John Boylan, deputy head of mission at the Embassy of Ireland, spoke at the ceremony.
