Phoenix Suns are looking to replace Monty Williams, who was fired after Denver eliminated them from the playoffs in the Western Conference semifinals.
The 76ers fired Doc Rivers after a couple of days after they dropped Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals at Boston. Philadelphia never made it past the conference semifinals in the three Rivers coached the 76ers.
The Republic confirmed last week Frank Vogel, Suns associate head coach Kevin Young, Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez, Nurse and Rivers were finalists for the Suns head coaching position.Young joined Phoenix’s coaching staff going into the 2020-21 season. He was elevated to associate head coach when Willie Green became head coach in New Orleans the following season.
The Raptors fired Nurse after going 41-41 this season and losing to Chicago in the play-in tournament. With Nurse heading to the 76ers, Young emerges as a favorable candidate for the Suns position in part because the relationship he has built with All-Star Devin Booker in his time with the Suns."He can do stuff on the court and he’s a mastermind with the Xs and Os and game scouting and knowing teams," Booker said."So having the balance of both has been a big boost for my career. He’s really helped and is someone you can go to, ask any type of question.
Nurse earlier pulled out of the running for the Milwaukee head coaching position. The Bucks are looking to hire Adrian Griffin, Wojnarowski tweeted last week.The remaining coaching vacancies are in Toronto and Detroit.
