Saskatoon city hall has tried to limit traffic at the intersection of Clarence Avenue and Main Street three times over the last 20 years.

A 2013 city report also said the daily traffic volume on Main — 5,000 — was five times what a so-called local street was expected to accommodate. Many would beg to differ with the classification of Main as a typical local street. It is called Main Street. This time, city hall is using the term “channelization” to explain the changes. Channelization is being considered again because an unspecified number of residents reportedly contacted city hall with safety concerns.
