The last three Saskatoon mayors have left in defeat, but Clark may opt to call it quits after two terms and 18 years on city council. yxe
Clark defeated Atchison in 2016 after a decade as a councillor. By next year’s election, he’ll have served 18 years on council. He’ll also be 50 years old and perhaps looking for a new challenge.
All this speculation could mean nothing. Clark could very well decide to run for mayor again, but he definitely knows by now which way he’s leaning. He’s always been extremely cagey about his political future and only announced he was seeking a second term as mayor in late July 2020.Article content Robert Mitford Pinder most recently followed up three years as mayor with four years as a Liberal MLA — a mere 85 years ago, the last such success story.
Buckwold won back the mayor’s seat in 1967 before Pierre Trudeau appointed him to the Senate in 1971. The provincial NDP is currently nominating some candidates for next year’s election, scheduled to take place a couple of weeks before the next municipal vote. Clark would hold appeal for a party seeking to gain traction and would be seen as a leadership contender,As for when Clark might announce his intentions, consider what his mayoral contemporaries have done.
