Pfizer scraps one weight loss drug in race to develop Ozempic rival

Pfizer said it would discontinue the development of lotiglipron after labs results showed high levels of liver enzymes in patients during clinical studies

The drugmaker has previously said it would choose only one of the two weight loss drugs it was developing to advance into later-stage clinical trials.

The path forward for Pfizer’s obesity drug franchise becomes more clear after Monday’s decision, Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Louise Chen said in a note. The drugmaker said it would finalize plans for the late-stage trial of danuglipron by the end of 2023. It is currently being tested in a mid-stage study on obesity patients.
