COVID-19 levels remain elevated across the province, and experts are warning that a prolonged surge of infections could be coming as the seasonal cycle of fall and winter returns. “There’s still quite a bit of the virus circulating in our communities,” Dr. Nazeem Muhajarine, an epidemiologist at the University of Saskatchewan, said this week. “What we’re seeing is not trending down, but kind of a gradual rise.”showed the viral RNA load of COVID-19 in both Saskatoon and Regina to be continually high, with Saskatoon considered unchanged from the week prior but Regina noting an increase. Viral loads decreased in both Prince Albert and North Battleford week-over-week.
Muhajarine said it’s fair to anticipate infections increasing even further in the coming weeks, as Saskatchewan transitions to colder weather and increased indoor activity.Want to know how we decide what to cover and how editorial decisions are made at the Saskatoon StarPhoenix and Regina Leader-Post?
