A pet store owner on Vancouver Island is reeling after a quick smash-and-grab burglary. The thief made off with the store's cash register in just five seconds.
It took a thief just five seconds to break a window, reach into a store, grab a cash register and leave, in a Vancouver Island smash-and-grab recorded on a store security camera. My whole heart sunk. I just felt completely violated, you know, like someone was reaching in and not only grabbing my equipment but also my hopes and dreams,” said Ashley MacLeod, who owns The incident around 3:30 a.m.
Boxing Day didn’t set off the alarm, but a police patrol sometime later noticed the broken glass and damaged cash register on the ground outside. “I thought it was going to be the end. She used her savings to start the business on Cliff Street less than a month ago, opening the store selling healthy pet food and other supplies for dogs and cats on Dec. 1.But it was all part of an expensive point-of-sale system that now needs to be replaced.“$2000 worth of deductible to fix that yahoo’s stupidity? That’s pretty sad,” said customer Marian Roper, who stopped by the store on Saturday.“Unfortunately, that’s what this town is coming to, though, and they don’t really have any consequences for the guys that do that kind of stuff because they’re just going to get a slap on the wrist and do it again because they don’t care.” Police told MacLeod there were no fingerprints and the person was disguised, so an arrest is unlikely.“I’ve lived here for 15 years. I love all the events that happen downtown. It just has a warm community feeling, and I have a lot of hopes for the future for it for sure.”Saturday, more than 220 people have commented, many promising to give her some business to help her out.page to help raise some money to cover the insurance deductible
