Police were able to identify the suspect with help from the public and the BC Hate Crimes Unit.
Chilliwack RCMP were notified about an X user, formerly Twitter, posting discriminatory and harmful language on July 17. "This is a sensitive matter that has impacted many members of our community which is evident in the amount of information that continues to be reported to the Chilliwack RCMP,” says Kiener.
With help from the public and the BC Hate Crimes Unit, Chilliwack RCMP investigators were able to identify the suspected user of the account. Kiener understands that the public wants to know more about the content of what was posted and who the person is. "Due to the file being ongoing we are not able to release much more than what is already shared,” says Kiener. "This is to protect the integrity of the investigation, we also don’t want to perpetuate the message this person was sending.”
