Colleagues and friends of former prime minister Brian Mulroney are remembering him for his ability to rally his political allies to the causes he believed in, while also maintaining close personal relationships through a sense of kindness and charm that allowed him to meaningfully connect with even his adversaries. Mulroney, who served as Canada’s 18th prime minister from 1984 to 1993 and led the Progressive Conservative Party to back-to-back majority governments, died Feb. 29 at age 84.
” Former Conservative Senator Marjory LeBreton, who worked in Mulroney’s office during his time as prime minister, told that Mulroney’s substantial policy achievements—including free trade agreements, environmental polices, and even the GST—'made and continue to make a substantial contribution to Canada.” “Even the perceived failure to reach consensus on the Constitution should be celebrated,” said LeBreton, referring to the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords.
