"We've done this for years ... we've had drone strikes that were very effective over many years and didn't kill any civilians and we've also had drone strikes which did," Mullen said. Mullen echoed other leaders who said that communicating"with counterparts around the world is routine" and he added that he was encouraged the line of communication with China remained open during the tumultuous time.
