The rocket that is Penny Oleksiak is ready for lift off yet again, this time in defence of her Olympic title.
Oleksiak was third in her semi in a time of 52.86, as she was clearly conserving energy for the 4 x 200 freestyle relay less than two hours later. It was mission accomplished, however, as Oleksiak finished with the fifth fastest time from the semis.
The Toronto swimmer looks determined to match or surpass that performance in her Olympic debut with two medals in Tokyo already and a shot at many more, including Thursday’s 100 freestyle final.Article content “She’s a known performer,” Swimming Canada’s high performance director, John Atkinson said on Wednesday in a phone interview from Tokyo. “She has an ability to lift when it matters. She gets on with what she needs to get on with.”
