YouGov polling put the former defence secretary as the most popular in both the single choice and head-to-head votes
In the polling, YouGov paired off the candidates to see how they fared against individual rivals – mirroring the final vote format.
Ms Sunak only beat Jeremy Hunt – who is now out of the race – in the one-to-one polling. He was outranked by every other candidate. A poll of 2,200 adults, carried out by Savanta ComRes last week, found only 11 per cent of the public, and 16 per cent of Tory voters, can correctly identify her when shown a photo.
A separate poll had Mr Sunak as the most popular candidate among the public as a whole, and the most well-known.
