The Penn Mile Stakes is the signature event of the season at Penn National Race Course.
Penn Mile 2024: Two graded stakes winners head a competitive field of 10 in Friday’s $400K Grade 3 raceMajor Dude, ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr., beats Behind Enemy Lines, ridden by Flavien Prat, in the 2023 Penn Mile Stakes at Penn National Race Course. The 2024 Penn Mile Stakes, a Grade 3 race with a $400,000 purse, will be run this Friday night at the Grantville oval.
Friday’s first post is 5 p.m. The Penn Mile Stakes is the sixth race on the card with a scheduled post time of 7:45 p.m. Graded stakes winner First World War, by sire War Front, is the second morning-line choice at 4-1, coming off a ninth-place finish, beaten only lengths after a troubled trip in the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland on April 5.
The Hard Spun sired colt is lightly-raced, but is two-for-two lifetime, winning his 2024 debut in the listed Woodhaven Stakes at Aqueduct on April 27. Jockey Flavien Prat will be aboard. Prior to that start, the Oscar Performance colt won back-to-back turf races at Gulfstream Park, including the Cutler Bay Beach Stakes. Jockey Emisael Jaramillo has the riding assignment.
