Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby is among the nominees for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy revealed by the Professional Hockey Writers Association on Friday.
The trophy is awarded to a player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to the game. Masterton is the only player in NHL history to die as a direct result of an on-ice injury.
Kylington returned to the NHL in late January after a nearly 20-month absence for mental health reasons. Kylington continued to work with Flames’ support staff through his personal leave and is back to being a fixture on Calgary’s blue line. The 26-year-old has two goals and three assists in 27 games this season.
Armia was passed over on waivers to start the season and sent down to play in the American Hockey League for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The 30-year-old winger has remained with the Canadiens since being recalled on Nov. 25 and produced 16 goals – tying his career high – in 59 games this season.
Samsonov has bounced back from a disastrous start to the 2023-24 campaign which saw him placed on waivers by the Leafs on Dec. 31. At the time he had a 5-2-6 record with an .862 save percentage and 3.95 goals-against average. He has gone 16-3-1 with two shutouts since Jan. 21.
