Well-versed in endurance, Pearland's Madison Peters eyes two medals at state track meet
As she prepares for a fifth trip to a University Interscholastic League state running championship, Madison Peters has seen quite a bit.She has competed in heat, rain and cold.A determined fighter on the track, Peters has also needed to be quite the grappler off the course.
Peters is making her second straight trip to the UIL state track and field meet in Austin, where she’ll compete in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races. She’ll enter this year’s championships with better times in both races. Her Region 3-6A championship time of 10:31.54 is more than 27 seconds better than her time last year in the state championships. Peters enters the 1,600 with a second-place time of 5:01.65 at the Region 3-6A meet. Even that runner-up finish is more than three seconds better than her time at state last year.
“It will help me a lot,” she said. “At the area meet, it really benefited me. I came back later for the 1,600 and hit a PR . Recovering well is the main key to running a good race later.”
