Paula Hawkins: ‘I’ve just read a book by a man who actually finds women interesting’ 🟡 The author talks about rural Ireland, Eeyore, and her perfect writing spot
Where are you now and what can you see?
I’m at my desk at home in Edinburgh; I can see the fabric-covered notice board above the desk. This is the board to which, at some point during my writing process – generally around half way through the novel – I will pin cards to help me organise my thoughts and make sure I haven’t got my plots twisted. At the moment it is covered in postcards and photographs and to-do lists.by Donal Ryan, a man who writes about women as though he actually likes them and finds their lives interesting.
I admire women who live their lives on their own terms and are unapologetic about their ambitions – women like Wangari Maathai, the Kenyan environmentalist and human rights campaigner, the late Portuguese artist Dame Paula Rego, and Svetlana Alexievich, the Belarusian investigative journalist.
