Two guitar heroes join forces for some burning hot six\u002Dstring action.

“The Shut-Ins came out of me asking Kevin to come join in on a gig I was doing in Toronto, which was the first time we ever actually played together,” said Pigat. “The great thing about him is that he is such a consummate player that you don’t have to tell him anything at all. You just let him do Kevin. It’s going to be something that goes from smooth, pixilating into utter chaos, only to arrive wrapped up with a bow on it.

“We’ll start with the two of us improvising to get into it, drawing on the Shut-Ins record and other music and then bring the band on to play some Cousin Harley, some of Kevin’s singer/songwriter stuff and whatever else grabs us,” said Pigat. “The thing about surrounding yourself with musicians of like mind is that you can always be flexible in the way you play, and none of us really are that type of player.

“There is a very low sense of cleverness on the record, and that’s really important to me because I hate hearing me over-thinking on a recording,” he said. “We have done one gig and it was kind of meatball surgery, just get up and play something. This is going to be something completely different with the band and a breadth of material to draw from.”Article content
