The Canucks have 17 regular season games left. They want to get more points than last year, but they must also take stock of the roster and its potential.
GLENDALE, Ariz. — The mood in the Gila River Arena dressing room was unmistakable. If Disneyland is the Happiest Place On Earth, the opposite was the space occupied by the miserable Vancouver Canucks.
With this in mind, here are three things general manager Jim Benning should focus on to close the season: What if Karlsson and-or Myers can’t be enticed to play in Vancouver? Benning could try to trade for a player like Jacob Trouba, but it’s difficult to imagine the Jets losing both Myers and Trouba, so scratch that.
Rookie Ashton Sautner is going to get a long look, as will veteran Luke Schenn, but both are best suited to depth minutes and are hardly game-changers. Once he gets here, the Canucks are expected to play him as much as they can. They need to know just how quickly he can adapt to the NHL game.
