And so when both men got married this past winter, Corbin at 29 and Skaggs at 27, it seemed they would remain in lockstep, certainly personally and to a degree professionally, even as Corbin inked a $140 million contract to pitch for the Washington Nationals and Skaggs was guaranteed no more than the $3.7 million the Angels would pay him in 2019.
To pitch or not was hardly a consideration: Corbin did not want to leave his teammates in a bind and, he felt, “it was best to just go out there and play the game of baseball.”
