A 27-year-old man from Martins River, N.S. , has been arrested after allegedly stealing a hospital staff member’s car. The man was a patient at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, when officers allege he swiped a set of car keys at the switchboard area then exited the building on Aug. 19.
Police say he found the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta in the parking lot and drove away. Investigators obtained documentary and photographic evidence to identify the patient, who was unknown to the staff member. Lunenburg District RCMP and fire services responded to a report of a burned-out Jetta in Hebbville hours later.
“The missing vehicle was later found outside of town destroyed by fire,” the Bridgewater Police Service said on Friday. “Investigators obtained a description of a person observed walking away from the car when smoke began showing. Further investigation determined that the burnt car was the vehicle reported stolen from the lot at the Bridgewater Hospital,” police said.
