Pasadena businessman who established high school basketball tournament gets hall of fame honor
and provides an economic boost to those communities.
"I remember early on, the Rosewood Funeral Home guy stood up at a meeting and he said, 'Ben, I believe what you're doing and I'm willing to write a check for $2,000 right now to make it happen.' That really kind of got us going." "It's been a good event for Pasadena. I think it's raised the level of awareness for basketball among the high schools because they get to see what's in other communities, the caliber of talent and all," said Meador, who now lives in College Station with his wife, Janice. His company, Meador Staffing Services, has local offices including in Pasadena and Deer Park.
The tournament brought well-known collegiate coaches and top-level players to local gyms. One tournament alumnus is Boston Celtics point guard Marcus Smart, who averages 11 points per game for his team, which had a 52-24 season record as of March 29.
