Public statements from party leaders regarding the recent contentious foreign interference report have been “a bit of a mess,” according to some political strategists who argue mixed messages are leaving Canadians with questions. “We are getting commentary in varying degrees of responsibility without the public being privy to the actual, original documentation to be able to assess whose analysis is correct,” said Yaroslav Baran, co-founder of the Pendulum Group and a former Conservative staffer.
“I would prefer … an adult conversation out of the media spotlight, but only for those parliamentarians who have top-secret security clearance who are willing to meet in a secure place and have a secure conversation. In other words, that our conversation not lead to public misunderstanding.
