Canadian Andre De Grasse begins defence of 200m crown
Andre De Grasse continues his defence of his Olympic 200-metre title when he runs in the semi-finals. De Grasse finished second in his heat behind 100-metre champion Noah Lyles to advance. The star sprinter from Markham, Ont., won’t have his personal coach with him when he runs. Coach Rana Reider had his accreditation revoked by the Canadian Olympic Committee on Tuesday for unspecified reasons. The 200 final goes Thursday.
Canadians Brooke Henderson and Alena Sharp are in the field as women’s golf gets under way at Le Golf National southwest of Paris. Henderson, from Smiths Falls, Ont., tied for seventh at the Rio Games in 2016. The 13-time champion on the LPGA Tour also competed in Tokyo. Sharp, from Hamilton, won bronze at the 2023 Pan Am Games and is coming off a pair of top-20 finishes last month.
