Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, coverage for the two doses of MMR jab that protects five-year-olds has dropped to 85.5% - well below the 95% target recommended to prevent an outbreak of the serious illness.

Parents are being urged to make sure children have had their MMR vaccinations before they start school

This is well below the 95% target recommended to prevent an outbreak of the serious illness – which is more contagious than Covid-19. Dr Kit Yates, science author and senior lecturer at University of Bath, blamed the alarming decline on the ‘dangerous’ anti-vaccine campaigns in the last two years. The survey shows nearly a third of parents are worried about potential side effects of the vaccine, more than 10% said they do not agree with vaccination of any kind and another 8.61% do not believe the jab works.

Some other initial signs include a swollen eyelids, sore, red eyes that may be sensitive to light, fever, small greyish-white spots in the mouth. For most people, the illness lasts around seven to 10 days.
