Paramount+ announces four show cancellations, including Star Trek: Prodigy, with plans to remove them from streaming entirely ahead of a merger.
Paramount+ announces that it has cancelled and plans to remove four shows, including reversing the renewal of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2. This practice quickly proved divisive when HBO Max removed a slew of its programming from streaming. Financial reasons and reorganizations are often cited as the main reasons for controversial removals, including when Disney+ removed dozens of series and movies this past May.
“As we prepare to combine Paramount+ and Showtime later this month in the U.S., we are refining our content offering to deliver the best streaming experience for subscribers. The Paramount+ series ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,’ ‘Star Trek: Prodigy,’ ‘Queen of the Universe’ and ‘The Game’ have completed their runs on Paramount+ and will not be returning to the service.
