Vaters brought forward a series of motions related to the byelection, which will only be held in person, with no mail-in ballot option, due to the short timelines required.As per the Municipal Elections Act of Newfoundland and Labrador, a byelection shall take place within three months of a vacancy in council.
Laurie was a town councillor in Paradise for over a decade and a former deputy mayor of the town for four years. The 44-year-old, first elected to council in 2009, passed away following a battle with cancer.
