According to Jennifer Stinson, a nurse practitioner with the chronic pain program at The Hospital for Sick Children, each child copes with pain differently. Here’s her advice on how to manage your kid’s pain.

The most commonly used OTC medications for pain are acetaminophen and ibuprofen . Both are safe for kids.

Parents should be aware that aspirin, while in the same family as acetaminophen, should not be given to children under 18, as it’s been linked to an increased risk of Reye’s Syndrome.Headaches are quite common in children. And in the past two years, with increased isolation and online schooling, lots of kids have developed headaches.

If your child’s tummy pain is vague, all over the stomach and lasts a couple of hours, it may be functional abdominal pain, which is most common in kids between five and 10 years old, and typically gets better over time. • Bubbles can help teach deep breathing, which can relieve stress and anxiety.
