Padres pregame: Voit at first, Myers at DH as trade deadline approaches

The initial first pitch is at 1:10 p.m. The next is at 7:10 p.m. Major League Baseball’s trade deadline will pass in between, at 3 p.m.

“It’s pretty wild,” Myers said. “ … I think most people today were waking up, saying what’s going on. It’s pretty exciting to see a guy like Juan Soto and Josh Bell come over here. So very exciting to see that. You’ve got two impact bats, a guy that’s been a great player for a long time, a generational type hitter, so it’s pretty cool to have him aboard.”

Josh Hader acquired Monday from Milwaukee, has arrived, addressed the media Tuesday morning and will be available to pitch.man and will start Game 2. Right-hander Tayler Scott was also in the clubhouse before the game, although his roster move could be paired with whatever is announced before the deadline.

Alfaro and Myers will bat fourth and fifth, respectively in Game 1, followed by right fielder Nomar Mazara, shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, catcher Austin Nola and center fielder Trent Grisham. Left fielder Jurickson Profar, third baseman Manny Machado and second baseman Jake Cronenworth will occupy the top three spots.
