After throwing 13 scoreless innings at Diamondbacks and Dodgers, Padres pitcher Michael King roughed up in second and third innings against the Rockies
The Rockies came out swinging Wednesday afternoon. Eventually Michael King used that to his advantage. Just not soon enough. The up and downs of King’s first season in the rotation continued with five runs allowed over the second and third innings, burying the Padres in an 8-0 loss that cemented a series loss to a Rockies team that’s won seven in a row and is still last place in the NL West.
“As a as a starter you have to feel your way through it and understand the times when you can use it and know it's not in a damage situation,” King said. “I knew that the game plan had it being used a decent amount to these guys for chase and I just didn't execute it. So I think I should have went to the change-up earlier or tried it in earlier counts to know that it's not a damage pitch with runners in scoring position.
