He knows repertoires of pitchers and studies his at-bats and those of others as if there were going to be a pop quiz at any moment. He chases pitches outside the strike zone as infrequently as almost anyone in the major leagues.
Soto arrived in San Diego the night of Aug. 2 already among the most accomplished hitters in the game, at 23 years old. Suffice it to say the lists of things he has accomplished — in terms of production, high walk rate and low strikeout rate — at his age are almost exclusively populated by Hall of Famers and certain future Hall of Famers.

That’s the difference here. They just go right at it. They go attacking me, attacking me. They used to do that in ’19 and ’18. In 2020 and 2021, they come down a little bit because they know I didn’t have that much backup behind me.
