In the early hours of Fat Tuesday, hundreds of hungry customers lined up outside of Rudy’s Strudel in Parma, ready to order dozens of paczki at the bakery’s annual Paczki Day event.

“We wanted to contribute something to Paczki Day too, because it’s the most Cleveland of holidays,” Marie said. “I never in a million years thought we would hear back from [Mistretta] – and not only hear back from her but end up chatting with her; she’s such a nice person for as famous as she is.” This year, local customers showed up in droves for the sugary treats. Parking was scarce in the side streets around Rudy’s Strudel at 6 a.m., with cars filling the entire parking lot and lining the block.
“The line’s long,” Rudy’s Strudel owner Lidia Trempe said. “I’m trying my hardest… I haven’t slept in, like, four days.”
