Aaron Rodgers is a difficult man to reach — even if you’re the Packers’ GM, apparently.

Speaking Monday at the NFL owners’ meetings in Phoenix, Green Bay exec Brian Gutekunst claimed his multiple attempts to connect with Rodgers this offseason about the future went unanswered, despite the 39-year-old quarterback suggesting otherwise.

“I was really looking forward to the conversations with Aaron to see how he fit into that,” Gutekunst said,“Those never transpired. So there came a time where we had to make some decisions, so we went through his representatives to try to talk to him [about] where were we going with our team. At that point, they informed us that he would like to be traded to the Jets.”

It’s been a rollercoaster of an offseason for Rodgers, who finished a disappointing 18th season with the Packers in January after failing to make the playoffs.Although Rodgers did not make an immediate decision about his future at the time, the four-time NFL MVPAround the same time in February,Gutekunst said Monday the lack of communication led to the Packers mapping out alternate routes.

“Our inability to reach him or for him to respond in any way,” Gutekunst said, “I think at that point, I had to do my job and kind of reach out [to other teams] and understand that a trade could be possible and see who was interested.”Icon Sportswire via Getty Images
