Brandon Zurkan, of Warren, wouldn't stop for police until he crashed his car through a fence, and when he got out of the car, he was holding a handgun, police said.
Canandaigua, N.Y. — A Pennsylvania man was fatally shot by police in Canandaigua when he raised a gun at officers after a car chase ended in a crash Tuesday night.deputies and two Canandaigua police officers fired their guns at him.
The caller reported that they heard what they thought could be a gunshot coming from the car, Cirencione said. A short time later, a deputy found the car and attempted a traffic stop, he said. For eight minutes, police officers and deputies tried to de-escalate the situation and order Zurkan to put the gun down, Canandaigua Police Chief Mathew Nielsen said at the news conference.Zurkan was taken to a local hospital where he wasAfter searching his car, investigators found another gun, additional ammo -- including another magazine for his handgun -- and unidentified pills, Cirencione said.
