Charlottetown Islanders forward and team captain Keiran Gallant, positioned in front of Moncton Wildcats goaltender Jacob Steinman, tracks the puck on a scoring opportunity as referee Tanner Doiron follows the play. The action took place during a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on Feb. 12. Gallant scored the winning goal in overtime to give the Islanders a 5-4 win before close to 2,800 fans.
The Islanders defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 3-2 in regulation time on Feb. 9 and lost 3-2 in overtime to the Saint John Sea Dogs on Feb. 10. Charlie DesRoches of Days Corner, P.E.I., scored the winning goal for the Sea Dogs on a power play at the two-minute mark of overtime. Going into play Feb. 12, the Islanders and Eagles were six points ahead of the Sea Dogs and Titan and four back of the sixth-place Baie-Comeau Drakkar .Before 2,785 fans at Eastlink Centre, Alexis Michaud scored twice while Jérémie Biakabutuka had a goal and two assists. Isaac Vos of Charlottetown scored his second goal of the season to round out the Islanders’ scoring.
Etienne Morin , Charles Beaudoin , Yoan Loshing and Maxim Barbashev, who tied the game 4-4 with 27 seconds remaining in regulation time, countered for the Wildcats .
