Bill would have put limits on signage during provincial elections
aimed to limit the number of large signs used by each provincial candidate to no more than five, while capping the number of election lawn signs at 50.
Perry said he has observed a pileup of signage during byelections in recent years around intersections and roundabouts, which he said obscures visibility of oncoming traffic."There was four-by-eight signs that were actually in the middle of roundabouts. So, I thought that was a public safety issue.""It's 2022. We have other means of getting our message out there to each candidate known to their district, their constituents," Perry said.
Profitt said election signage did not increase voter turnout during the recent municipal elections in P.E.I. Profitt also said he believed candidates can get their message out through other means, such as print or radio advertisements and social media. Lund said she introduced the amendment because she believed the bill could otherwise limit the freedom of expression of individuals.
