“This year, we have Jeremy Wall with us, and he was at the Special Olympics in Germany, and he won three medals, a gold and two bronze ,” said Gallant during the post-race awards ceremony at Alysha Toombs Memorial Park in Kensington, near Credit Union Centre, on Aug. 19. The 2023 recipient of the newly renamed award was 33-year-old Ben Bain of Oyster Bed Bridge. Bain, the brother of well-known runner Alex Bain, only began running races this year.

“Mind you, I think I was an hour 10 minutes behind the winner, but I was able to keep a constant pace,” said Ben with a chuckle. Ben said his plan at the beginning of the 2023 season included running every race on the P.E.I. schedule except for a full marathon – 42.2 kilometres.
