The deadline for candidate registrations expired on March 17. The Greens and Liberals are two candidates short of a full slate while the PC's and NDP are fielding 27. FileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — P.E.I.’s Green and Liberal parties will not be running a full slate of candidates in April’s election.

The Liberals confirmed they will not be fielding candidates in the districts of Stanhope-Marshfield and Borden-Kinkora in a news release on March 17. Stanhope-Marshfield will be the district with the fewest candidates. Only PC incumbent Bloyce Thompson and NDP candidate Marian White are running in that district. Four years ago, this was the district of former Liberal premier Wade MacLauchlan.This election will be the first in over 100 years in which the once-dominant Liberal party will not be fielding a full slate of candidates.

"They were so demoralized, and the Conservatives won the biggest victory to that point in the history of the province," MacDonald told SaltWire Network on March 17.
