ICYMI: “The latest guidance I have has snow arriving during the morning commute, likely between 6 and 9 a.m.,’’ said Aalders. “That snow could be falling heavy, at times, by mid-morning but it is a fairly fast transition over to rain.’’

Across Prince Edward Island, it looks like 15-20 cm from Summerside to West Point, 10-15 cm in Charlottetown and the central part of the province and 5-10 cm between Montague and Souris.

Winds are expected to gust out of the south to 40 km/h early in the morning and between 50 and 70 km/h by the afternoon and night. Aalders said the rain will continue through the morning of Jan. 14 with 20 to 40 millimetres possible, in total, over the two days.“We have had some cooler temperatures during the last few days. We had some snow, too, on P.E.I., so the ground is starting to freeze up. The ground can’t absorb all of that melting snow and rain all at once.’’

Aalders said by midday Jan. 14, the weather will change again to freezing rain or ice pellets for the province and continue on Jan. 15. He added that temperatures will rise again on Jan. 16 and stay mild until at least Jan. 18 with more precipitation that will likely fall in the form of rain.[email protected]It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
