“It feels great. I love the dorms, I am having a great time so far and I am ready to compete tomorrow,” he said Feb. 27 at the UPEI campus. “I hope to have a fun time, learn a lot and do the best I can.”

MacLeod said he was able to watch his friend, Mara Duncan, compete in wheelchair basketball during Week 1 and said the atmosphere has been great at the venue and the festivities at Founders’ Food Hall and Market.The team had an opportunity to practise at the Eastlink Centre on Feb. 27 in preparation for the competition.

Coach Philip Stewart, who is attending his fifth Canada Games, said the sessions are helpful as they provide an opportunity for the athletes to get accustomed to their surroundings, so they are more comfortable when competition begins.“It’s nice to have the home crowd,” he said. “We have the home-field advantage.”“I pretty much just thought it looked cool, so I decided to join.

All pool bouts will be run as the standard five hits, three-minute bouts.“The main thing is to look for is the one that is starting the attack … who is the one that is initiating the action,” Stewart said.The team’s six members range in age from 14 to 18 and have become quite close during the leadup to the Games.

“We’re all friends, and it’s to spend time with people who enjoy the sport as much as me and be able to fence as much as possible,” MacLeod said.A look at when each event is taking place at the Canada Games fencing competition. All events are occurring at the Eastlink Centre’s arena.
