The Oyster River Recycling Depot has a new owner, with Comox Strathcona Waste Management announcing it has purchased the facility to ensure it remains a vital community asset. The depot, located at 2185 Regent Rd.
, will continue to serve residents of the Comox Valley Regional District , Strathcona Regional District and South Campbell River, with CSWM committing to upgrades and expanded recycling options in the years ahead. The acquisition was funded through CSWM’s approved financial plan. Planned improvements include building upgrades, additional parking and expanded diversion services.s network, which would allow residents to recycle items such as glass, foam and flexible plastic packaging at the site. The depot has been part of the Oyster River community since 1976, when it was first built as a fire hall. Recycling services were added in 2002, and the facility now serves about 12,000 residents as well as commuters between Campbell River and Courtenay. More than 500 tonnes of material are collected annually, making it one of the busiest depots in the CSWM system. “Now that we have purchased this property and building, we can plan to make improvements to the resident experience and explore potential expansion opportunities,” said John Rice, SRD Director of Electoral Area D .“This property has provided important services for many decades, and the CSWM Board is excited to provide this as a recycling service for future generations to benefit from,” said Grieve.Jeff Lawrence is a Digital News Editor for CHEKNews.ca.
