Montgomery County Animal Shelter officials are easing overcrowding by transporting dogs and cats to partnering shelters in the northeast after two large seizures of pets from animal cruelty cases pushed capacity past 500.

Since Friday, 120 animals have been flown to shelters in Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts, said shelter Assistant Director Mark Wysocki. Faced with the influx from the two unrelated animal cruelty cases, Wysocki said he and Director Aaron Johnson reached out to several organizations including the Bissell Pet Foundation, the PetCo Love Foundation and Tito’s Handmade Vodka for help on rehoming the animals.Alleged Cleveland mass shooter to be represented by veteran Houston attorney Anthony Osso
“Montgomery County Animal Services grateful for Bissell Pet Foundation’s support as we work to offer second chances to as many pets in our care as possible,” Wysocki said. “This is our second Bissell Pet Foundation transport flight, which has once again allowed us to open up critical space to continue serving pets in our community.”“We can’t do this without the extra help from our wonderful animal services team who’s been at the shelter walking, and crating these dogs ...” Keough said.
